Best New Restaurants & Bars in Sydney 2018
A flood of new restaurants and bars have opened in Sydney this year and I couldn’t be happier. From new wine bars to a restaurant that serves only T-bone steaks, there’s a huge array of new dining spots for us to visit. Hoorah!
Below I count down my top 10 Restaurant and Bar Openings of 2018 (in no particular order). I suggest you make it your mission to visit every last one before the end of the year!
- BERT’S BAR & BRASSERIE
Merivale’s glamorous 1930’s styled bar and brasserie set overlooking The Newport and serving top notch bistro fare.

Little sister to Ester restaurant, Poly is a wine bar at heart offering an extensive wine list along with innovative bar snacks.

Automata Chef Clayton Wells’ newest offering. This is one fancy canteen! Certainly a step up from the old style canteens.

This NYC hot spot is regularly featured on ‘World’s Best Bar’ lists globally and they have finally landed in Sydney! Cocktails are a specialty, along with a NY inspired bistro menu.

Matt Moran and Solotel’s ambitious project consisting of 3 levels of drinking and dining options, including House Bar, Bea Restaurant and rooftop bar, Smoke Bar.

Replacing the old Papi Chulo on the wharf, Queen Chow Manly serves classic cantonese cuisine with stunning waterfront views.

Italian cocktail bar that pays homage to the classic Tuscan dish, bistecca alla Fiorentina (or t-bone steak as we know it)!

Merivale’s take on a Spanish Tapas and Pintxos Bar. Intimate space offering a simple tapas menu, wine and cocktails. A great pre-dinner option. If you can get a seat!
4 Palings Lane, Sydney
- BOPP & TONE
Applejack Hospitality’s newest offering and their first in the CBD. A glamorous space reminiscent of the post World War 2 era. Serving a share style Mediterranean influenced menu.
