Bar tsar Justin Hemme’s has transformed the old Paddington Arms Hotel into The Paddington.
The pub has undergone a complete ‘Merivale’ makeover with a British twist and an old butcher theme. It’s bright and airy with plenty of seating, at tables or booth seats and it even boasts a private dining room (which seats 12). File that one away for when you’re looking for your next birthday party venue.
Executive Chef Ben Greeno (ex Noma and Momofuku Seiobo) is responsible for the food. He has created a rotisserie menu – think lamb rump with red pepper and almonds, wagyu beef with artichokes, pickled mustard seeds and watercress, whole fish stuffed with olives, lemon and thyme and roast chicken with French fries. Small plates including octopus, potato, confit tomato and black olives; smoked trout with English muffin and duck egg; spelt, roast cabbage, kombu and prawns; and parmesan custard with sprouted pulses are also available.
To quench your thirst, ex Palmer & Co. mixologists Sam Egerton and Toby Marshall have created a signature cocktail list, plus there’s an impressive wine list to wet your whistle.
We think The Paddington suits both groups and couples, it’s child friendly and is also a great late night dining option.
