Review of The Owl House
The Owl House offers a small bar downstairs and a dining room upstairs and has a focus on exceptional food. We’re not talking your standard gastro-pub fare, just check out their degustation menu with either matching wine or cocktails, if you don’t believe us!
Now, we did say the downstairs bar is small. It would fit 15 people at most, and you get the idea a great deal of them are local. But, that’s the charm of The Owl House, it’s a cosy, intimate space and that’s why you’ll keep returning.
The vibe is chilled and relaxed, complete with mismatched furniture and exposed brick walls. It’s not fancy and it doesn’t pretend to be.
In terms of the food, they offer an a la carte menu including a selection of Bar Snacks, Entrees, Mains, Desserts and Cheeses and the menu is designed to be shared. The food is beautifully plated with interesting and sometimes unexpected flavours and we always love the idea of sharing the dishes with your table.
But if you really want to sample the best of their fare, we suggest you choose their 8 course degustation which you can match with either wine or cocktails. Good to know the portions are spot on so you won’t be feeling too full at the end of your 8 dishes.
Speaking of cocktails, The Owl House specialise in them and as with their food menu, they change their list according to the seasons. They also like to create their own versions of classics such as their 1930’s Cosmo, which they make with their own spiced cranberry puree and mix with Ketel 1 citroen vodka, Cointreau and lime.
To top it all off, the service is personalised, friendly and attentive. They seem to want you to feel right at home and we think you will.
Note: Beware navigating the steep staircase after a glass of wine or two on your way out though, no easy feat – especially in heels!
We think The Owl House is a great option for a casual dinner with a group of friends, or a top spot for a romantic date night.
