Review of The Lord Dudley Garden Restaurant
The Lord Dudley is one of the East’s most loved English pubs. Part of its charm is that it has remained relatively untouched over the years. The interiors retain their traditional dark wood panelling, with patterned red carpets and eclectic ‘drinking’ niknaks. It’s almost like stepping back in time walking just through the door. In fact, it’s not hard to imagine your grandpa drinking at this pub.
But, downstairs where their restaurant is located, has always been rather dark, with a lack of natural light. But, we’re happy to report that is no longer the case!
The Lord Dudley has relaunched their restaurant as The Garden and they’ve made some big changes. Firstly, they’ve installed a glass atrium which allows natural light to flood the restaurant. The walls are now covered with cream sandstone and green foliage hangs from the ceiling. They’ve completely changed the ambience creating a bright and airy feel, whilst still retaining a rustic charm.
Head Chef Simon Tang is behind the food menu which stays true to The Lord Dudley‘s heritage, offering classic English dishes with a modern twist. The menu, whilst not extensive, offers a selection of starters, mains and desserts and the famous Lord Dudley pie is always available. The menu changes according to the seasons.
To wet your whistle you’ll find a reasonably priced wine list as well as beers and cocktails.
We think The Lord Dudley’s Garden Restaurant is a stellar addition to this classic pub. They are definitely not serving up your average pub grub here, but it’s not too fancy either. We’re also happy to see a small menu executed well. Oh, and best of all, you can just head upstairs for a pre or post meal drink. Evening sorted!
