Review of The Gidley
The Gidley is brought to us by the guys behind much loved Bistecca.
Find the entry, press the door buzzer and descend the staircase. An opulent underground sanctuary awaits. The dimly lit interior features wood panelled walls, velvet booth seating and marble tabletops. It just screams ‘expensive’. Or rather, perhaps it just whispers it.
The Gidley follows in Bistecca‘s footsteps as a steakhouse, but ups the glam-o-metre, offering an indulgent space with fine dining service. But this is not a stuffy fine dining establishment, you’ll find just the right amount of cheekiness here!
Naturally you should start your visit in The Lounge, where you can order your favourite tipple. A bespoke cocktail menu is on offer along with a huge array of spirits, as well as beers and ciders. A small food menu is also available in The Lounge, should you be looking for just a drink and a nibble.
Once it’s time to head into the restaurant, you will be encouraged to leave your mobile phone at the door. They want you to enjoy your dining experience, the old fashioned way, before our devices competed for our attention. Once you get over the separation anxiety, you can focus on the menu.
Of course steak is the star of the show and there are a number of cuts to choose from including rib eye on the bone and the famous spinalis, a cut that is said to be the most succulent cut in the world. But never fear if you are not a red meat lover. The Brick Chicken is delicious. Oh, and who can go past a Pumpkin Pie, right? The sides also have an American feel with Mac & Cheese and 3 different types of potatoes, along with some salads and greens for good measure.
The wine list is extensive and they live by their motto ‘life’s too short to drink bad wine’. Couldn’t agree more.
I think The Gidley is a top spot, particularly for corporates, a special celebration, or date night.
Actually they have a private room that can seat up to 20, which might be perfect for a private event.
Just be aware the steaks are a little pricey, so it may not be a cheap night out.
