Review of The Dolphin Hotel
Surry Hills institution The Dolphin Hotel has undergone a fresh new makeover and she’s looking better than ever. Maurice Terzini (who you may know from establishments such as Icebergs Dining Room and Da Orazio Pizza + Porchetta) took over the site in 2016 and has created a new vision for the much loved hotel.
The new decor is modern and features white on white and monochrome palates. The venue is now made up of three distinct spaces, a Dining Room, a Wine Room and a Bar complete with an Alfresco Terrace.
But fancy new fit out aside, the food is where she truly shines. Executive Chef Monty Koludrovic is behind the new food concept which he describes as Modern Italo-Australian. It’s almost like a more approachable (and affordable) version of the Icebergs Dining Room menu.
There’s a serious Salumi Cabinet for starters along with Northern style pizzas, meats, seafood and more. Produce is respected and you should expect quality offerings whatever you choose.
But the wine has not been forgotten. Respected Sommelier James Hird has seen to that. The Wine Room in particular showcases some of his best offerings.
All in all, we love the new Dolphin Hotel. Just keep in mind this is probably not your best choice for a quiet date night. You’re most likely to find it pumping and it’s not hard to understand why.
