Review of Rocker
Chef Darren Robertson of Three Blue Ducks fame has teamed up with Bondi local Cam Northway to bring us Rocker.
Non surfers might be interested to know that Rocker refers to the bottom curve from the nose to tail of a surfboard and they’ve appropriately gone with a coastal cool vibe. The interior perfectly channels the laid back Bondi aesthetic and it’s effortless, almost as if they haven’t tried too hard. Which perhaps they haven’t.
Cafe by day, resto bar by night, they’re offering breakfast, lunch and dinner menus at Rocker. Chef Stuart Toon joins Robertson in the kitchen and they’re serving up anything but cookie cutter fare.
For example, on the breakfast menu you’ll find ‘The Buckler’ – Pigs head hash brown, Rocker bacon, blood sausage, fried egg & sourdough which you can enjoy with your single-o coffee. Pigs head hash brown? But, somehow it works.
In the afternoon you can nibble on a Spanner crab roll with lemon myrtle, celery and iceberg lettuce or perhaps a whole John dory, with burnt urchin butter and sea succulents. You get the idea.
At night, Rocker turns into a buzzing restaurant with more substantial dishes on offer, including pasta dishes. The Pappardelle with ox cheek, orange, thyme and parmesan sure hits the spot.
They also offer a children’s menu which they call ‘Little Rockers’ and a set menu for groups or couples.
We think Rocker is yet another top spot to join the growing list of stellar eateries in Bondi.
