Review of Queens Hotel
Merivale expand their empire even further, opening their first venue in the The Inner West in the form of the Queens Hotel. The dual venue includes a restaurant downstairs (Queen Chow) and a cocktail bar upstairs (The Smelly Goat).
But, first let’s start with the restaurant.
Queen Chow serves a Cantonese menu that pays homage to Hong Kong’s street kitchens (or dai pai dongs). The kitchen is headed up by Papi Chulo’s Christopher Hogarth and Patrick Friesen and former Mr. Wong dim sum master, Eric Koh.
On the menu you will find a variety of Cantonese dishes along with traditional Hong Kong offerings such as Typhoon Shelter Crab (deep fried crab with garlic, chilli, black beans and the pulp from soy beans). A dim sum menu is also offered.
Upstairs at The Smelly Goat, it’s all about the cocktails. The drinks menu is described as eclectic and has been designed to compliment the Chinese food menu, incorporating Asian spices and also Asian teas into their drinks.
We think Queens Hotel is a top spot for groups and a perfect late night dining spot. It’s also great to see the Inner West getting some love from Merivale.
