Review of Primus Hotel Sydney
The Primus Hotel Sydney located in the CBD is one of Sydney’s newest luxury 5 star hotels, opening in December 2015. The hotel has taken up residence in the old Sydney Water Board headquarters and has been restored retaining the building’s original Art Deco heritage and charm.
The imposing lobby boasts 8 metre high ceilings, providing a feeling of grandeur and space upon entering and is centred around a chic lounge area and lobby bar. You will also find the hotel’s restaurant (The Wilmot) on the ground floor.
The decor is best described as 1930’s glamour with accents of red and white marble floors with plenty of plush velvet sofas and arm chairs to relax into.
Primus Hotel Sydney Rooms
The generously proportioned 172 guest rooms span over 6 levels. The rooms offer plenty of natural light and a smart colour scheme incorporating navy, reds and neutrals. The rooms are modern with just a slight nod to the Art Deco era. You will notice a few small extra touches in the rooms such as a Nespresso coffee machine and an iPhone docking speaker system.
The bathrooms are spacious and include a luxurious bathtub and Appelles amenities.
Good to know, free wifi is offered in all rooms and in room dining is available 24 hours.
Primus Hotel Sydney Facilities
One of the things we like most about Primus Hotel Sydney is the Rooftop Pool Bar which is exclusive to hotel guests. It features a 20 metre heated lap pool along with plenty of seating and sun lounges. We think it is the perfect spot to relax with a refreshing drink.
Should you feel like a little exercise, a gym is available including free weights, weight machines and cardio equipment.
Primus Hotel Sydney Restaurants
The Lobby Bar is perfect for a pre or post dinner drink, or perhaps a light bite. A bar menu is offered containing share style tapas dishes and more substantial mains such as burgers and pasta dishes. Apart from beer and wine, signature cocktail and mocktail menus are offered as well as a Martini menu – which was particularly up my alley!
High Tea is also available daily from 3 – 5pm.
The hotel’s restaurant The Wilmot serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant features an open kitchen with a view into the lobby area.
Executive Chef Ryan Hong’s menu focuses on contemporary cuisine with an Asian twist.
For breakfast, a buffet is offered with hot and cold options. Plus, you will be pleased to know the Chef will cook your eggs to order to your liking.
For lunch and dinner, 1, 2 or 3 course menus are offered. For entree, we enjoyed the quail and chicken rolled with chicken mousse and served with a salad. For main, the 1.2 kg Tomahawk is hard to go past and best shared!
The wine list features local and international drops and your sommelier will be happy to match your wine with your dishes if you wish.
Good to know in room dining is available 24 hours.
Primus Hotel Sydney Room Rates
We think Primus Hotel Sydney is a top spot for a Sydney staycation or a great place to stay for those visiting Sydney. The size of the guest rooms and the Rooftop Pool Bar sure are hard to beat in Sydney! We also enjoyed the quality of service which was displayed by staff throughout the hotel.
