Review of Porteno
Carnivores unite and go forth! Porteno is your meat lovers paradise, offering succulent Argentinian barbecued meats and traditional fare.
Porteno has relocated from its original Cleveland Street digs to a brand new venue in Holt Street. (The old home of MoVida).
The restaurant feels a bit more grown up with leather banquet seating, dark woods and black and white floor tiles. But there is still a hint of their ‘rockabilly’ vibe. Particularly evident by the waiters with their white shirts, vests, bow ties and slicked back hair.
Porteno serves up a menu designed to be enjoyed in the only way the Argentinians know how, by sharing. Meats are slow roasted over a traditional Parilla (that’s a barbecue) and Asado (that’s a fire pit) and boy are those cooking hours worth the wait!
The new venue has sparked a new menu. Of course meat still plays a big part in their offering and those brussel sprouts are still there (thank goodness), but they have also included some new dishes such as ‘fugazza’ (an Argentinian focaccia-pizza) and ‘faina’ (a chickpea pancake) along with some additional seafood plates.
The wine list is exclusively Argentinean, but staff are on hand should your Argentinean wine knowledge not be up to scratch. Speaking of staff, the service is impeccable. Friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. They’ve got it down pat.
We really love this place. It’s hard to find better meat in Sydney. Also a great place for groups.
Oh, and the best part is – they now take bookings for groups of any size! Hoorah!
