Review of Pelicano
Pelicano is an underground bar/restaurant located in leafy Double Bay.
They’ve gone with a European Summer theme with an appealing mix of neutrals and colours. In fact, it’s not hard to imagine you are on the Cotes d’Azur once you step inside. But, what we love most is there is plenty of seating.
In the early hours of the evening the food is the star, with a menu created by Head Chef Faheem Noor.
We suggest you try to score an outside table if the weather is nice.
The menu is designed to be shared with French and Asian influences. You’ve got starters such as Sydney rock oysters with yuzo honey and eschallots and popcorn prawns with wasabi aioli, along with more substantial dishes such as slow cooked sweet and sour lamb ribs and sumac baked salmon with black quinoa and harissa paste.
But, what is most intriguing is the food is superb! This is certainly a cut above your standard bar fare. Well, we hear Chef Faheem Moor has trained under Gordon Ramsay amongst others!
Of course, you’re going to want to quench your thirst and Bar Manager and Sommelier Alexandre Raclet is on hand to create your perfect cocktail or suggest the perfect wine.
We think Pelicano is a great option for dinner, or somewhere to visit for drinks and a nibble later in the evening. It’s also a great spot for groups. Just be prepared to be mixing it with the trendsetters!
