Review of Nomad
There’s no mistaking Nomad in Surry Hills is a trendy restaurant. But, putting the ‘trendy’ aside, they are serving up some seriously good food here, it’s not all bells and whistles.
Taking up the interior of a turn of the century warehouse, they have a big space to fill and they do so well. The large space manages to be warm and inviting.
Many people may not know, Nomad is also a cellar door, not just a restaurant. So, if the mood hits and you want to bring that bottle of wine home to your cellar – that just may be a reality.
Much of the cooking at Nomad happens in its huge wood fire oven. There is a focus on local, naturally grown produce along with tried and true techniques such as pickling, curing, smoking, fermenting and drying. It’s share plate style, so perfect for groups.
In terms of the wine list, it is exclusively Australian and showcases celebrated and little known varieties.
We are fans. Great food, interesting Australian wine list, warm surroundings. Trendy or not, we’ll give it a tick and we’ll be returning again and again. In fact, (shhh – don’t tell anyone) it’s one of our favourites.
