It’s been years and $53 million in the making, but the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) is back, and it’s bigger, fancier and more beautiful than ever!
It’s fair to say, the old MCA was anything but contemporary, but the new building, housing 50% more floor space, combines the old sandstone facade with a new modern structure, sure to spark debate. Housing 3 new galleries, a roof top cafe, sculpture terrace, education centre, lecture theatre and forecourt, it’s a huge transformation, and well and truly deserves a visit.
Why not check out the Marking Time exhibition, featuring 11 Australian and international artists, with works showcasing the concept and representation of time – past, present and future, visualised across diverse media such as drawing, sculpture, watercolour, installation, sound and light.
Or, perhaps Christian Marclay’s much anticipated 24-hour video work, The Clock, which has attracted record crowds, wherever it has been shown. Special 24 hour screenings will be shown each Thursday from 10am during the opening season.
We love Thursday Lates – where you are able to experience art into the evenings, with an ever changing and interesting list of programs.
So, what are you waiting for? Get down to the new and improved MCA pronto!
