Review of Hotel Centennial

FEATURED IN:  TOP 10 GASTRO PUBS

Hotel Centennial is a warm and inviting gastro pub set in an environment that feels like you are in somebody’s home.  Albeit a rather wealthy ‘somebody’.  Think library, plush lounge room, chesterfields – you get the drift.

The interior is cleverly divided into sections which flow well together.  There’s a front bar, a dining room and a second bar/lounge area, which features a communal ‘high table’ with a club lounge feel and plenty of comfy sofas to relax into.

Sure, it may attract the trendy East crowd, but the food really has us excited.

The Chef is Justin North.  Remember him from the now defunct fine dining staple, Becasse?  Well he’s back with a vengeance and we for one are glad he is.  Though he’s embracing a more casual style this time.

The menu at Hotel Centennial is appropriately pub grub, comfort food, but with the refined elegance Justin North brings to the table.

The food menu changes according to the seasons and right now we can attest their Spring menu is divine.  Justin’s new menu makes the most of the Spring produce now available.  Think of dishes such as Crack Willow free range pork belly with granny smith, kohlrabi and lemon a la grecque or Seared loin of swordfish with Dutch cream potatoes, cucumber, sesame and ginger dressing.  Yum!

A range of menus are offered including Lunch, Dinner, High Tea, Set menus for groups as well as a Bar menu.

Food at Hotel Centennial

The wines have not been forgotten with a rather extensive list of Australian and European drops.  Best of all – your friendly sommelier can recommend a bottle or match your wine to your courses.

You can dine in the main dining room, or at the High Table (where there are specials on offer), or just grab a table in the bar.  Depending on your mood.

We’re fans.  Hotel Centennial is a testament to the new breed of casual restaurants serving up top notch nosh.  Who needs white table cloths these days?
