Review of Franca Brasserie
Potts Point once mourned the departure of Fratelli Fresh and Cafe Sopra, but all is not lost. Popping up in their old digs is Franca Brasserie. But you will not recognise the space.
Gone are the boxes and fresh produce. Instead you will find an elegant, European style brasserie, with striking features of marble and brass complemented by parquetry flooring, moulded ceilings, silk pin-tucked lamp shades, red velvet chairs and deep green leather half moon booths. This is an expensive fit out.
Alexis Besseau’s menu is a modern take on traditional French and Mediterranean fare, prepared with classic techniques. Naturally expect to find Foie Gras and French Onion Soup listed on the menu, along with some less expected dishes such as Squid Ink Tagliatelle. Oh, and it would be a crime not to offer a Cheese and Dessert Menu, which of course, they do.
A number of set menus are offered, as well as a late night Supper Menu. Vegans will want to take note there is also a menu dedicated especially to you!
The wine list offers drops from Australia, New Zealand and France of course, along with some rare aged wines.
Their specially curated cocktail list features a number of bespoke concoctions with even more interesting names!
I think Franca Brasserie is a welcome addition to the Macleay Street strip. A great spot for a romantic date night or a birthday dinner with friends.
