Review of Duck & Rice
FEATURED IN: TOP 10 OPENINGS OF 2018
Westfield Sydney has finally opened its Rooftop (on level 7), becoming home to modern Cantonese restaurant, Duck & Rice and Middle Eastern restaurant, Babylon. The easiest way to reach the rooftop is to take the express escalators from Pitt Street Mall, or the lift from the JP Morgan Building (at 85 Castlereagh Street).
Duck & Rice pays homage to Shanghai and Hong Kong in the 20’s and 30’s with an opulent fit out featuring marble, leather, brass and rich wallpaper along with Chinese artifacts. The large space, which seats 500 people, is adorned with 250 Chinese lanterns and the art deco styling creates a moody atmosphere. The fit out includes a bar, restaurant and an outdoor terrace.
The Restaurant menu, created by Head Chef Kago Fong is inspired by his childhood growing up in Hong Kong. Duck features prominently in the form of Peiking Duck pancakes, Cantonese Slow Roast Duck and Five Spice Duck Fried Rice. There are plenty of seafood options including Strawberry Sweet & Sour King Prawns and Sautéed Snow Eggs & Spanner Crab, and meat and poultry dishes such as San Pei Claypot Chicken and Sue Yuk, Crackling BBQ Kurobuta Pork Belly.
A dedicated Dim Sum menu is also offered with steamed and fried choices. Plus, you’ll even find Fried Ice-cream on the dessert menu!
There is a small bar menu offered including share style dishes such as Crispy Chicken Wings, Yuzu Duck San Choi Bau and Dim Sum. An Asian inspired cocktail list has been curated with options such as a Southside, made with Szechuan Gin, Citrus, Kaffir, Lemongrass, Mint. Plus, there are plenty of wines offered by the glass or bottle.
I think Duck & Rice is a particularly great spot for groups and a great option for a corporate lunch or dinner.
