Review of Donny’s Bar
The small bar scene at Manly is on the rise and one of the newest additions to join the growing list is Donny’s Bar.
Owners Matt and Tol have impressive local and international bar and restaurant CV’s. Donny’s Bar brings to life their concept to “provide a rustic, warm and comfortable place to enjoy great food and drinks”.
The impressive two-storey New York loft styled interior is warm and inviting with an industrial edge and a relaxed and welcoming feel. There is nothing pretentious about the place.
But the real stars are the food and drinks.
The drinks list showcases in-house specially designed cocktails, local beers and a unique local and international wine selection. We sampled quite a few of their cocktails on our visit and we loved the fresh flavours. The ‘Bonsai’ goes down particularly well on a hot day.
As for the food menu, you can choose from their dumpling and tapas bar menu or their more formal food menu, served in the upstairs dining room. The food, courtesy of Head Chef Richi Dia, is Modern Australian with an Asian influence. Once you notice the presentation of the food, you won’t be surprised to learn Richi comes from a fine dining background. This is not your average bar food – it is impressive!
If you’re a live music fan, you’ll be interested to know they regularly feature bands and this is when the place really gets pumping.
What a great little spot Donny’s Bar is. Inviting space, impressive food, delicious drinks, warm service. It’s a winner.
