Review of Contrabando
Hidden in a basement off Bent Street you will find Contrabando.
Once you spot the upside down Noble House Chinese Restaurant sign you know you’ve found the spot. A graffti wall marks the entrance and after descending the stairs you will be greeted with a colourful restaurant full of personality.
With no shortage of tables, the space is large with spots to suit both couples and groups alike. There’s a warehouse feel with dim lighting and polished concrete floors whilst a bright wall mural lifts the mood.
The food at Contrabando takes its inspiration from Southern California, Texas and Latin America. Think along the lines of soft tacos, chargrilled corn, quesadillas, suckling pig, chipotle sauce and guacamole of course, with the dishes best shared. You may also want to take note of their daily specials such as Slider Mondays and Taco Tuesdays. Just $3 each – talk about a bargain!
To quench your thirst, there’s a range of cocktails to choose from with classics such as Mojito’s and Margaritas, while their wine list features predominantly South American bottles.
The service is friendly and they take bookings! Also a great option for corporates.
