Review of Butcher and the Farmer
Butcher and the Farmer is an all day restaurant located within the Tramsheds development. Will and Steve, who you may remember from winning My Kitchen Rules in 2015, have recently come on-board as Lead Chefs and have curated their own special menu.
The rather large restaurant has street frontage at Tramsheds (easily accessed from the car park) and features a rustic interior with warm woods, exposed bricks and deep green leather banquette seating with the iconic Rozelle Depot tram offering a unique spot to sit and enjoy your meal, should you be feeling adventurous.
Will and Steve have designed their menu to be shared, with a focus on simple and honest food. The ingredients are sourced direct from the farmers and providores themselves.
On the breakfast menu the scrambled eggs are served with brioche and truffle pecorino, while the avocado on rye is accompanied by quinoa, lime, coriander, haloumi and dukkah. Plus, they make their own sausages in house.
Their all day menu starts with smaller bites such as scotched green olives and raw kingfish with citrus miso, coconut cream, red grapes, pickled baby cucumber and coriander. It moves on to larger sharing plates such as their popular rolled porchetta and 12 hour wood smoked brisket. Perhaps served with a side of blackened broccolini or fried brussel sprouts. Or, you can order from a number of different steaks with your choice of sauce.
For dessert the Butternut squash, maple and sea salt tart is hard to go past, or maybe the Earl Grey and chocolate mousse is more to your liking.
In terms of the drinks, there’s a bespoke cocktail menu on offer as well as craft beers and a number of local and international wines.
The Butcher and the Farmer is family friendly and also a great spot for groups. Good to know they have a number of private spaces available for events and functions.
