Review of Bistro Rex
The interior at Bistro Rex is appropriately reminiscent of traditional Parisian bistros with dark wood panelling, a mix of leather banquette seating and bistro chairs, lush green foliage and accents of copper providing a little extra sparkle. They haven’t tried to be too fancy with the decor, but rather opted to create a warm and inviting environment, which we think they’ve achieved.
The food menu is not overly extensive and naturally consists of classic French bistro fare.
Expect to find classics such as chicken liver parfait, beef tartare and Steak frites on the menu. No surprises there. But for our money we can’t go past the cote de boeuf, affectionately named ‘T-Rex’! Just be sure to bring some friends to share the whole 500 grams with! Should you be looking for lighter options, it’s hard to go past the Nashi pear salad with the Market fish.
Good to know, Bistro Rex also offers reasonably priced group menus and a late night supper menu.
The substantial wine list consists predominantly of French drops with some local wines thrown in for good measure. Your friendly sommelier will be on hand to help you out should your French wine knowledge be a little lacking.
We think Bistro Rex is a welcome edition to the Potts Point dining scene and a smart French bistro full stop. These guys are industry professionals after all and it shows, not only in the food, but also in the service. They’ve got the recipe down pat.
