Review of Bennelong
Housed in the iconic Opera House, Bennelong boasts an enviable view that few (if any) restaurants can compete with. But the view alone is not the only reason to visit Bennelong, the food rivals the view as the star attraction.
Now that Guillaume Brahimi has relocated his restaurant to Paddington, Executive Chef Peter Gilmore (from Quay) has taken over this stellar spot and reinvigorated it with new energy.
The multi-level space is impressive, with soaring ceilings and floor to ceiling windows showcasing their million dollar harbour views. The decor is minimalist, with warm woods, caramel hues and soft lighting creating an understated ambience.
In terms of the food, the menu showcases Australian produce and is Peter Gilmore’s take on Modern Australian cuisine.
In the restaurant, a two or three course a la carte menu is offered for lunch, with a three course menu offered for dinner, as well as pre-theatre dining options.
Should you be seeking a more casual nibble, their Cured and Cultured menu (served at the The Circle or The Bar) offers raw and cold produce, which should perfectly complement your glass of wine of choice.
Speaking of wine, the list focuses on Australian drops from both small and large scale labels. Plus, they offer a cocktail list which focuses on Australian flavours.
We think Bennelong is the perfect pre or post theatre option or a fab spot for a memorable night out or a special celebration – either as a couple or as a group. Though, we do recommend you make a reservation!
