Automata is Chef Clayton Wells’ first solo venture and he’s chosen a converted warehouse space in Chippendale as the home of his first restaurant. Previously he has gained experience at London ’s Viajante and Sydney’s Momofuku Seiobo.
Bucking the trend of casual dining, Chef Wells is going all out at Automata and bringing back the degustation menu, or a moveable 5 course menu (in his words), with matching wines should you wish.
But, he’s kept the atmosphere relaxed and approachable with plenty of warm woods and not a white tablecloth in site.
The food really is the star at Automata and it is just that. Simple flavours that not only look amazing, but taste even better. This is not complicated cuisine. But it is sophisticated cuisine.
You really are in good hands at Automata. It’s fine dining in a relaxed environment. What’s not to love?
