Urban Chic Happy Hour wrap-up, Friday, 2 November 2012

Last night we held our last Urban Chic Happy Hour for the year in the 1920′s styled speakeasy bar, Former Glory at The East Village Hotel.

The East Village Hotel, is a charming heritage neighbourhood bar, nestled in the backstreets of Darlinghurst, with a colourful history.  Once a favourite haunt for the Sydney underworld crime gang, including the infamous Tilly Devine, the hotel was often referred to as the ‘Bloodhouse’, a reference earned due to the violence that took place inside.

The three level pub has now been lovingly restored to its former glory and retains its heritage charm.  The Dining Room, headed up by Adam Spencer, serves up tasty English pub and modern Australian food.  As well as the front bar, there is also a pretty impressive Rooftop terrace (something to keep in mind for Summer).

But, for our Happy Hour, we chose to enjoy the Former Glory bar, a private room with its own bar and a glamorous space, with luxurious chesterfields, 1920′s memorabilia and a stunning view of the city skyline.

Close to 100 people attended on the night, fully embracing our simple concept of getting people together to have a drink and a good time.  We couldn’t help but feel a little chuffed as we looked around the room, to see all the smiling faces and virtual strangers chatting away like old friends.  That’s exactly what we like to see.  People from all walks of life, coming together to find common ground over a simple shared love of having a drink and a fun time.

Here are some photos from the night:

Yet another stand-out event from the crew at Urban Chic Guides – a simple, yet very clever idea to bring people together from all walks of life and enjoy Sydney’s social life – if you live in the city, or travelling through, it’s a great way to get into the swing of things.
The night at the East Village Hotel was special for the surroundings -including the view of the city sky-line out the window! the company and the Bombay Gin they used to make their G & T’s, a favourite of mine.
New friends were made, and some familiar faces re-visited during the evening, and things were still going strong long after I took my Bombay Ginned little self home.
Great idea, good night, look out for the next one in 2013. You will definately see me there!
