Uchi Lounge
So, Uchi Lounge is a veteran on the Sydney dining scene, but many people have never heard of it.
This modern Japanese Restaurant – Izakaya – Sake & Shochu Bar (try saying that after a few Shochus) is located on a steep backstreet off Oxford Street in Surry Hills. So, you may understand why for most, it remains a well kept secret. It’s the kind of place you need to know about, as you’re unlikely to just walk by.
It’s a two story restaurant, with a large stone communal dining table downstairs and an upstairs restaurant with individual tables. The decor is traditional Japanese, with minimalist design and simplicity, but it retains a cozy atmosphere. The restaurant screams, or rather whispers, ‘Zen’.
Renowned Chef and Owner Takashi Ohuchi has brought his distinct fusion of old and new to Uchi Lounge, which has a ‘No MSG’ and ‘No Artificial Flavouring’ policy and focuses on organic produce.
The waitstaff, all Japanese (surprise, surprise), are polite, quietly spoken and attentive.
Shh…let’s just keep this between us, okay?
