The Alibi Darlinghurst
The Alibi, is class-ing up the Victoria Street, Darlinghurst strip. Touted as a ‘a drinking and dining establishment designed to transport discerning Sydneysiders back to a time when decadence was bliss’.
Walk inside, and you are indeed transported to a bygone era – the glamorous jazz age of the 1920s. Crystal chandeliers compliment dark interiors and art deco curtains, but the jewel in the crown of the unusual tiered restaurant is the impressive bar sitting right at the top.
The menu is modern Japanese, and is headed up by head chefs Adam Lane of Tetsuyas, Nobu London and Sake, and Shimpei Hatanaka of Masterchef, Sushi.E. and Sake. Pretty serious credentials. While ex Merivale mixologist Andrew Thomas is responsible for taking care of your desires of the liquid kind.
The food is a modern take on traditional Japanese cuisine and we particularly enjoyed the crab leaves, kingfish sashimi and the peanut butter parfait – can we just say we would have licked that bowl clean, had we not been in public!
The Alibi is a great place for groups big and small, whether you’re looking for a complete dinner spread, or you just want to pop in for a cocktail and some nibbles.
