A Tavola
348 Victoria Street, Darlinghurst / +61 2 9331 7871 / Dinner – Mon – Sat – 6pm – late, Lunch – Fri 12pm – 3pm
This restaurant is quite possibly our favourite Italian restaurant in Sydney.  That’s a big call.  Ok – we’re suckers for Italian food, but this place has something special.  It’s not the fanciest restaurant you’ll every try, but, don’t get us wrong – it’s a sexy restaurant.  It’s reasonably priced, but the food is some of the best Italian we’ve experienced in Sydney.  Don’t even bother looking at the paper menu.  Go straight to the blackboard menu and choose your fresh-made pasta.  We can rarely go past the Ragu – lamb, beef, pork - we don’t care.  It is good.  Oh, and if you like Burrata – you’re going to love this place.  Insider tip – make sure you check out The Victoria Room for a drink pre, or post, your meal.  It’s just across the road.  You can thank us later.

If you’ve read our review for A Tavola (above), you’re going to know we love Italian food.  The food in this place is good.  In fact, the Mushroom Fusilli is a dish we dream about.  This is a small, dimly lit, 50′s style joint.  Good service.  Good food.  Nothing fancy.  It’s our style.  Is it yours?

If you’re over 50 – you’re going to feel out of place here.  This place is filled with fashionista types.  It is cool.  You better be cool.  Or, you should dine elsewhere.  No bookings – put your name down, then walk up the 3 flights of stairs to the bar at the top.  Just don’t forget to keep your phone handy.  Trust us – you don’t want to miss your call for your table.  Food is good.  Asian Fusion – with a twist.  The Asian sliders are to die for.

Head through the neon-lit door, just underneath Rockpool Restaurant, down the winding stair case and you’ll enter this sexy restaurant and bar.  Expect dark lighting and ultra plush decor from Neil Perry’s  hidden basement establishment.  The  modern Chinese food is exceptional in every way.  It is faultless.  Have a drink at the bar, pre or post your meal, and mingle with the beautiful people.

Toko is one of our favourite Japanese restaurants.  It’s been a Sydney favourite for years.  Toko offers informal style Japanese ‘izakaya’ dining  Tokonoma Lounge has opened next door, which is actually a Soshu lounge – it’s a little classier, but the best thing is, they take bookings there.
