Matt Moran.  A celebrity in his own right, Aria is his restaurant.  You can’t beat the location and that view of the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House.  If you want one special night out in Sydney – this could well be it.  Inside tip – if you’re going to a show at the Opera House – Aria do a ‘pre-theatre menu’ starting at 5.30pm.

Quay Restaurant Sydney
Overseas Passenger Terminal, The Rocks / +61 2 9251 5609 / Lunch – Tues – Fri – midday – 2.30pm, Dinner – Mon – Sun –  6.30 – 10pm
Quay is perhaps Australia’s most awarded restaurant.  If you watch the Australian Master Chef TV program – you will have heard of the now infamous ‘snow egg’ dessert, created by Executive Chef, Peter Gilmore.  Incidentally, Peter was awarded 2012 Chef of the Year in the Sydney Good Food Guide (our Bible).  Quay has held a 3 hat rating (the highest rating) in the Good Food Guide for the past 10 years.  In 2011, Quay was voted No. 26 in the coveted S. Pellegrino worlds 50 top restaurant list, becoming Australia’s highest ranked restaurant, and named the best restaurant in Australasia.  We could go on.  You get the picture.

Tetsuya’s
529 Kent Street, Sydney / +61 2 9262 7099 / Tues – Fri - dinner from 6pm, Sat - lunch from midday, dinner from 6.30pm
World renowned uber chef Tetsuya Wakuda, is arguably Australia’s most famous chef.  This is not an experience for the faint hearted.  Don’t get us wrong, the food is exquisite, but, it is rich, and be warned the 10 course degustation menu is a lot of food, and if you take the matching wines – expect to be rolling out of there!  (We’re not saying that’s a bad thing).  Dining here is a once in a lifetime experience.  This is refined elegance at it’s best.

Icebergs Dining Room and Bar
One Notts Avenue, Bondi Beach / +61 2 9365 9000 / Tues – Sat – midday – midnight, Sun – midday – 10pm
Beautifully elegant space, with a view of Bondi Beach to die for.  We recommend dining for lunch, rather than dinner, as you want to make the most of that view.  It is pricey.  The view is quintessential Australian.  It’s the kind of place you have to go to at least once.

Rockpool Bar and Grill
66 Hunter Street, Sydney / +61 2 8078 1900 / Lunch – Mon – Fri, Dinner – Mon – Sat
Rockpool is Neil Perry’s restaurant, another famous Australian chef.  The dining room is spectacular with souring ceilings and retains the charm of the beautiful Art Deco building it’s housed in.  It is impossible not to be impressed when entering this restaurant.  Everything around you screams (or rather whispers) elegance.   Insider tip:  the attached bar is a great option for pre or post dinner drinks.  Or, if the dining room is not your thing, you may prefer to soak up the atmosphere in the bar with a glass of wine and their bar menu.
