Shhh…we’re going to let you in on a little secret…hidden beneath a busy city street, we found a rabbit hole and it’s serving up molecular cocktails and impressively presented plates of edible art…so hop this way and read on to find out more…

Hidden in a basement off Elizabeth Street, you will find Rabbit Hole Bar and Dining,  the brainchild of Doug Laming, who has been inspired from gastronomic journeys around the world and has returned to set up his very own Rabbit Hole in Oz.  The concept is very simple.  Forget bar hopping (pun intended).  Rabbit Hole is your one stop shop – pre and post dinner drinks, dinner, dessert, or just a nibble – all without leaving the comfort of your cosy posie.

The decor is warm and inviting if not slightly eccentric, with a unique artwork centerpiece featuring rabbit caricatures.  There’s a front bar and a rear bar – in fact, it’s rather spacious down this rabbit hole.

By their own claims, they specialise in all things liquid, but don’t expect your usual ‘run of the mill’ cocktail menu here.  Chemistry rules in this establishment, with a unique take on cocktails – bringing us into the world of the molecular cocktail.  Oh yes.  Doug Laming has come up with a unique take on the humble cocktail, taking it to a whole new level in the form of alcoholic jellys, foams, flavoured sugars and caviar, yes, you heard right!  Rabbit Hole is currently the only bar using the Cointreau Caviar Spherification, in fact there are only 12 of these in the world!  Trust us, you need to try these bursting balls of cointreau goodness.

The food menu, created by Executive Chef Tomoyuki Usui, previously of L’ Astrance (recently voted San Pellegrino’s 13th Best Restaurant of the World) is modern French.  Prices are extremely reasonable, with entrees from $12-$16 and mains from $25-$30.

So, as Molly Meldrum would say, ‘do yourself a favour’ and head down the Rabbit Hole sooner rather than later!  This secret is about to get out!
