You only have to turn the news on these days to realise there’s a lot of financial uncertainty in the world right now.  But, tightening your belt doesn’t have to mean staying at home and warming up a microwave dinner.  What fun would that be?  You can still dine out and enjoy a top quality experience, without breaking the budget.

Here’s our top 10 list of restaurants (in no particular order) serving up exceptionally tasty mains at less than $30.

  1. Bloodwood
    416 King Street, Newtown
    Most dishes on the menu are under $30 (ok, there may be 2 dishes just over, but it’s close enough).  You don’t have to compromise on quality and service – this is the perfect example.
  2. The Forresters
    Cnr Foveaux & Riley Streets, Surry Hills
    Not only are their mains under $30, but they also do $5 steaks on Mondays!
  3. El Loco
    64 Foveaux Street, Surry Hills
    $5 tacos.  Say no more.
  4. Bootleg Bar + Italian Food
    175 Victoria Street, Potts Point
    A bowl of homemade pasta (including my all time favourite pasta dish) for less than $30?  Yes please.
  5. The Buffalo Dining Club
    116 Surry Street, Darlinghurst
    Mozzarella, flown from Italy, for less than $20 a pop.  Oh yeah.
  6. Dukes Bistro
    63 Flinders Street, Darlinghurst
    Fine dining quality at less than $30.  Bargain.
  7. The Owl House
    97 Crown Street, Darlinghurst
    Recently awarded ‘Best bar with food’ in the smh Good Food Guide.  Most mains are under $30.
  8. The Fish Shop
    22 Challis Avenue Potts Point
    We’ve yet to check this newcomer out, but it’s been getting rave reviews.  Even the Fishermans basket (for 2) comes in under 30 bucks.

    155 Victoria Street, Potts Point
    We’ve yet to post a review, but can promise from first hand experience the food is tasty.  All dishes come in under $30.

  10. Bodega
    216 Commonwealth Street, Surry Hills
    This is our favourite Spanish tapas restaurant, and we must post a review soon.  All dishes under $30.  Quality?  Priceless.
