Tim Storrier ‘The histrionic wayfarer (after Bosch)’, Archibald Prize 2012 winner
If you’re in need of a little culture, why not head down to the the Art Gallery of NSW to see the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman prize exhibition.
The Archibald Prize is one of Australia’s most prestigious art prizes. It is awarded to the best portrait painting, of a man or woman distinguished in art, letters, science or politics. The Wynne Prize is awarded to the best landscape painting of Australian scenery, or sculpture, and the Sulman Prize is given to the best subject painting, genre painting or mural project in oil, acrylic, watercolour or mixed media.
Tim Storrier’s self potrait was the winner of this year’s Archibald Prize, winning $75,000 in prize money. Imants Tillers was awarded the Wynne Prize for Waterfall (after Williams) and Nigel Milsom the Sulman Prize for Judo House pt 4 (Golden mud).
While you are there, be sure to put in your vote for the People’s Choice Award, which is announced on 17 May.
