They say ‘Adios to Cliches and Hola to Mexico’! Welcome to Sydney, Mexican Film Festival!
Visiting Australia every summer and aiming to introduce us to ‘the real life Mexico’, the travelling fiesta is a celebration of Mexican film, fun and food.
We love the sound of the opening night fiesta, coming up on 25 October. Seriously, you can’t go wrong with tacos, tequila and a mariachi band! (Tickets are $49).
Also worth checking out is Burros, the winner of the Best Film at Morelia Film Festival 2010 and Guadalajara Film Festival 2011 and Miss Bala, a film about a Beauty Queen and Mexico’s violent gang warfare, which was selected to compete in the 2011 Oscars for Best Foreign Language Film.
If Hollywood action is more your thing, Andy Garcia and Eva Longoria star in Cristiada which examines just what price we are willing to pay for freedom, as it looks in to the true story of the 1920s Cristero War and the people’s revolt that rocked 20th century North America.
